The 18th International Nursing Research Congress Focusing on Evidence-Based Practice, 11-14 July 2007 in Vienna, Austria drew more than 1,100 nurses from 48 countries. There were more than 800 oral and poster presentations during the event.

The week began with four evidence-based nursing workshops. Evidence-Based Decision Making: A Hands-On Introduction, presented in collaboration with Centre for Evidence-Based Nursing, University of York and Quantitative Synthesis: Practicalities of Meta-Analysis, presented in collaboration with The Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) on Monday, 9 July. Igniting Evidence-Based Practice in Clinical Settings: Basics & Beyond was presented in collaboration with the Center for Advancement of Evidence-Based Practice at Arizona State University (ASU) and Clinical and Healthy Work Environment Best Practices: Powerful Guides in Your Road Map to Excellence, presented in collaboration with the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario (RNAO) on Tuesday, 10 July. Both workshops were well received and stimulated conversation and plans for the future.

Joanne Rycroft-Malone, RN, PhD, Reader in Health Services Research at the University of Wales, Bangor, UK and the Editor of Sigma Theta Tau International’s online publication, WorldViews on Evidence-Based Nursing, opened the research congress with “Moving Evidence-Based Practice into the 21st Century: Running a Marathon Whilst Playing Chess?” Thomas Kwok S. Wong, RN, PhD, Dean of the Faculty of Health & Social Sciences at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in Hong Kong, closed the congress with the “Moving Evidence-Based Nursing Collaboration into the 21st Century.” The energy level was high and a number of international collaborations were born from spirited discussions during the events.
