Showcasing excellence
Does your chapter have a success story that exemplifies the vision and mission of the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International? The second biennial Showcase of Regional Excellence is a recognition program that provides a way for chapters and consortia to share these accomplishments with their regions, as well as the entire honor society. The Showcase will be commemorated during a special celebration at the Leadership Academy (formerly Chapter Leader Academy) that will be held Sept. 25-27, 2008, in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. “The Showcase of Regional Excellence is an exciting way to share with all of us the creative and visionary ways your chapter is fulfilling the honor society’s mission and vision,” said Jane E. Allen, RN, MS, BC, chair of the 2007-09 Regional Chapters Coordinating Committee. The Showcase focuses on the three principles found in the mission and vision of the honor society—knowledge, leadership and service. Examples of excellence in knowledge include sponsoring a translational research project, innovative research dissemination or creating a knowledge-related mentorship. A chapter might display success in leadership by developing a successful mentoring model, collaborating with other chapters on programs or encouraging leadership development through innovative initiatives. Examples of excellence in service include providing a patient education series; coordinating and/or participating as a chapter in a unique community service event; or collaborating with other chapters, nursing organizations, hospitals and schools of nursing on a special project. These are just a few possibilities. A chapter’s success story must demonstrate innovative and cutting-edge work in one or more of the three honor society principles cited. Chapters and consortia may submit more than one success story, as long as the work occurred between June 1, 2006, and June 1, 2008. Submissions will be received and reviewed by each region’s designee and must be submitted via e-mail by June 15, 2008.
