The vision of the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International is to create a global community of nurses who lead using knowledge, scholarship, service and learning to improve the health of the world’s people. Through the Member-Get-a-Member campaign, members have an opportunity to identify nurse colleagues who exemplify this vision.

The campaign, which began in late 2007, continues to be a success. It encourages honor society members to identify nurse colleagues and friends who exemplify nursing excellence. These exceptional nurse leaders are invited to apply for membership. To date, more than 231 nurses have been nominated. Members and chapters that participate in the campaign by nominating a colleague or friend are also recognized for their contribution.

More than 148 members have already participated, and that number continues to grow. Each participating member is listed on the honor society Web site and will be recognized, along with his or her chapter, at the upcoming Sigma Theta Tau International Leadership Academy. In addition to this recognition, participants have an opportunity to win quarterly prizes.

“I delight in being able to encourage others to join,” said Donna Rane-Szoztak, winner of the first quarterly prize of US $50. “The honor society is the symbol of everything I associate with professional nursing—a commitment to lifelong learning. It is a community of nurse scholars and leaders who share the wonderful profession of nursing and help all of us rise to our highest potential.”

At the conclusion of the campaign, participants who qualify will be entered into a drawing for a grand prize of $250. To qualify for the grand prize drawing, a referral must lead to the induction of a new member. Any chapter that inducts a minimum of 10 nurse leaders before June 30, 2008, will be entered into a drawing for a free Leadership Academy registration.
